Colorful Christmas Decor: Christmas Home Tour 2021

Sharing is Caring

Here it is, folks … our Christmas home tour, filled to the brim with colorful holiday decor!

You weren’t expecting anything BUT color and whimsy and bold hues, right?

This is seriously one of my favorite posts to write every year.

And I’m always so grateful to Jennifer at Dimples and Tangles for inviting me to participate in her annual It’s a Colorful Life Tour, the Holiday Edition.

If you’re coming here by way of Casa Watkins Living, welcome! Isn’t Stephanie’s home so fun and gorgeous? I just love her colorful, eclectic style … and I especially love all her unique botanical holiday decor.

There are very few things that make me happier than decorating my home for Christmas.

And the bonus is that I get to share it through pictures with all of YOU!

In this post, I’ll be taking you on a tour of our entire main level, all decked out for Christmas.

Ready? Let’s do this.

Colorful Christmas Decor in the Foyer

We live in a rectangular 1980s Colonial-style home, so we have a relatively small entryway.

When you enter in through the front door, you see a coat closet right in front of you, a hallway that leads to our family room and kitchen, and a staircase that leads to all our bedrooms.

Our coat closet door is bright and welcoming already, but I recently made this wreath to make it extra festive:

The best part?

The update was free because I used a faux wreath I bought last year, along with shatterproof baubles I’ve collected over the years (and most of those were purchased here).

In addition to our coat closet, we have a small area to the immediate right of our front door with a console table and a mirror.

Of course, that spot also got dressed up in its holiday best:

Simple greenery, a single nutcracker, and a wooden bowl of ornaments … an easy but pretty little setup!

Psst: See the basket under the console table?

That’s where all our dog stuff goes. Leashes, poop bags, you name it.

That large basket is a great way to hide all of those not-so-attractive things!

Colorful Christmas Decor in the Family Room

Our family room might just be my FAVORITE Christmas-y place in our home.

We decorate our main tree in a different way each year. Last year’s tree was rainbow-hued, while this year I was a little more lax on the theme.

Our decorating basically went like this: I added gold garland, a few large disco balls and a layer of colorful baubles … and then the kids had a field day and got to decorate however they wanted.

I have to say, even being super type A and the kind of person who likes everything in its place, I am in love with this year’s tree.

Here it is!

It looks like it’s dripping in golden glitter, doesn’t it?

Ready to see the whole tree, and our mantel?

This year, I used a few faux boxwood garlands and some mercury glass trees to decorate our mantel.

The colorful stockings (I purchased them here) add so much whimsy to the space that I kept the other mantel elements simple.

Also, check out the fun gift wrap under the tree! That blue Chinoiserie paper is from one of my favorite small businesses, Clairebella Studio!

And now here’s a look at our entire family room!

The felt garland you see on our pink bamboo table was a Trader Joe’s find a few years ago — luckily, when I stumbled upon it, I wound up buying about a dozen strands!

Good thing I did because it’s really come in handy now for a few holiday seasons.

You can’t buy the Trader Joe’s garland online (well, you can through third-party sellers, but if you go that route, be prepared for a big markup in price), but here is a similar colorful felt garland option that’s equally adorable.

A colorful living room decorated for Christmas - a large faux white Christmas tree, stockings hanging on the mantle, multi-colored garland stands on a small pink side table, and festive Christmas throw pillows on the couch and chairs.

This is the view of our family room if you’re standing in our hallway (and closer to our kitchen).

If you look at the blue chair, you’ll see that I layered some of our everyday pillows (the green jadeite-looking pillows) with a few holiday pillows. That red “Merry Christmas” one is a favorite!

That sparkly tree, though … that makes the whole space feel magical to me.

Our Christmas living room, and stunning bright gold and glittery Christmas tree. The mantel in decorated with Christmas stockings and garland, and Christmas throw pillows sit on a comfy blue lounge chair.

And this next photo might be my favorite one of all.

It’s the view of our family room and kitchen while you’re standing in front of the fireplace, which gives you a better look at all the meaningful, handmade ornaments on our tree:

Colorful Christmas Decor in the Kitchen

When it comes to our kitchen, I keep the decor simple — although, of course, I add some color!

Here’s a peek at our kitchen.

I took this shot standing in the corner near the door that leads out to our garage:

Here’s a look at the other side of the room.

I added some simple plaid ribbon to our pendant lights, some mini evergreen trees on our shelves, and then mixed faux and real garland — along with that fun felt Trader Joe’s colorful garland (the dupe I mentioned earlier is here, which you can buy online) — and placed that above our sink:

Our colorful Christmas kitchen decor - a festive wreath hangs over the stove, potted plants on the countertops, and festive plaid bows top the glob light fixtures over the kitchen island.

Here’s a better shot of the garland!

It’s even prettier in person, but it’s tough for me to get a great photo since one side of our kitchen gets awesome light while the other doesn’t.

The kitchen sink area in our kitche - potted plants fill the counter, and a gorgeous fir garland hangs over the window.

Colorful Christmas Decor in the Den and Playroom

When it comes to Christmas in our playroom, I always let the kids choose the theme for that tree.

For the past few years, they’ve decided to create a candy-themed tree.

And this year, I wrote an entire post about our candy tree that’s chock full of photos!

You can go read more about our Christmas playroom decor and the candy tree right here.

However, there’s one DIY project I just did yesterday in our playroom, and I am SO excited to share it with you … and it wasn’t done in time to make it into my last post.

I made some fun “JOY” artwork using frames I already owned, Clairebella Studio gift wrap, and my Cricut (this is the Cricut cutting machine model that I have).

What do you think?!

Colorful Christmas artwork in the playroom: three framed gold letters on a red polka dot background, spelling out JOY. Christmas throw pillows sit on a blue denim couch.

I love that gift wrap so much and wanted to do something fun with it.

And that blank portion of the wall was just crying out for some art:

Colorful Christmas Decor in the Dining Room

Last but not least, here’s our dining room — which turned into a flowery winter wonderland!

Earlier this year, I made over our dining room. I liked it before, but I really LOVE it now.

I built our Christmas decorating color palette off of the colors already in the room … so you’ll see shades of citron green and pink, plus gold and navy blue and everything in between.

Here’s a closer look at the table setting.

That bowl full of ornaments is my favorite!

The vases are from At Home Stores, and the greenery?

Well, those branches are compliments of my backyard.

Can’t beat free decor, right?

This is the first year we’ve had a tree in our dining room.

I love it!

Thank you, Katherine! The JOY artwork was so easy. I don't use my Cricut often enough but this was the perfect excuse to get it out of the craft closet.
