Gallery Wall Ideas: 17 Ways to Personalize Your Art Collection

Sharing is Caring

I recently worked with a client who asked for my help with creating a gallery wall in her family room.

Her challenge? “I find that I like plenty of wall decor, but rarely does anything jump out at me that I really love.”

I’ve heard this same sentiment from many of you, and I completely get it. There are so many wall decor options out there that creating a gallery wall — let alone one that holds meaning for your family and brings a smile to your face every time you walk by — can be totally overwhelming.

Here’s what I pulled together for her, and a little bit about why I chose these pieces:

My client loves the cozy feel of farmhouse style, so I curated this collection of neutral, rustic wall accents for her. Her favorite color is yellow and is an accent color she uses throughout her home, so I brought it a pop of sunny color with the flower print in the upper left-hand corner. The map is a vintage map of Boston — where she went to college — and the state of Virginia wood sign represents her family’s home state. One of my favorite parts of this collection is the flashcard print, which represents the two adults and three children in her family. (Psst, this was a downloadable file via Etsy, and I just love it — you can get your own from this shop!) Some of the other items like the wooden “family” sign and the galvanized metal wall letter are items she already owned and wanted to incorporate.

To help you jump start your gallery wall planning, I’ve brainstormed 17 ways that you can personalize your space beyond hanging family photos:
