Here’s the thing: I love Pinterest and home decorating magazines just as much as the next person. Really, I do.

Have you ever admired a design, only to discover that there’s no freaking way that gorgeous glass coffee table or the $5,000 sofa would last for five seconds in your own home? Or that you’d ever get an entire weekend to yourself to tackle a major DIY project?

Mama, I feel you.

And all that “inspiration” kinda makes you want to throw your hands in the air and proclaim that decorating while your kids are young is a waste of time, right?

I’ve been there. But I’ve got a secret to share with you.

You’re better than that. And you deserve to live in a home you love.

Yes, YOU deserve to have a pretty AND practical home that makes you proud — all decorated on a “normal person” budget.

And that’s exactly where I come in.

It is entirely possible – and so much easier than you think – to create a home that’s functional and family-friendly without compromising on style.

That’s precisely why I started Kate Decorates, where we’re all about décor and organization ideas so that you can create a polished yet practical home that’s perfect for life with kids (and apple juice spills and crayon marks and all that fun stuff).

Whether you’re looking for easy, high-impact decorating tips (check!), kid-friendly décor ideas (check!), 10-minute DIYs (check!), or tricks to get and stay organized (check!), we’ve got you covered.

So stick around, and let’s create that fabulously stylish home you and your family deserve.

Wanna know more about me? Let’s start with the basics: I’m a thirtysomething wife, mom of two, PR gal by day, and decorator by night who lives in a 1980s builder-grade abode in the Washington, DC suburbs.

I love decorating with color and pattern, and constantly have a new design idea up my sleeve….sometimes to my husband’s dismay. (“Honey, why did you order another chair? Where is this going?!”)

I’m also a big fan of iced coffee, wine, Netflix, Target, dance remixes, ballet flats, healthy eating (most of the time), and avoiding the gym (so bad, I know).
