Guys, great news — we made it through the holidays!
Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmastime, but can we all take a minute and admit that it is utterly and totally exhausting for us moms?? From buying and wrapping gifts to baking cookies for your kid’s school holiday party to remembering to move that freakin’ elf around every night, there is so much to do in such a short period of time, and much of those to-dos fall to us.
So when the end of December rolls around, I like to look in the mirror and give myself a giant pat on the back. And a glass of wine.
You should do the same.
Now that I’m back home after a week of traveling to visit family, I’ve had an opportunity to reflect on this year, and how far my blog and business have come in 2017. I’m certainly not the biggest or most popular blog out there — not even close! — but when I started Kate Decorates in the fall of 2016, I wasn’t exactly sure where it would take me. And here I am typing this post today, writing to all of YOU, my awesome tribe of readers. And I could not be more grateful for your support, your feedback and for just showing up to read my posts and following me on social media.
Thank you, a million times over. Thank you for being awesome.
I also want to take this opportunity to find out about what YOU want to hear more about in 2018. What are your decorating goals? What are those challenges around the home that you’re struggling with? Leave me a comment at the end of this post, or shoot me a note and tell me about what YOU want to see on the blog: hi [at] katedecorates.co.
All right, now let’s take a quick look at the top five posts that YOU loved from the blog this past year! Here’s a roundup of the five posts you loved the most. And if you missed one of the posts below, now’s a great time to take another look.

IKEA KALLAX HACK: TURN YOUR SHELF INTO A BENCH WITH THIS EASY DIY NO-SEW CUSHION
This IKEA Kallax hack is by far the most popular post on the blog! And with good reason: No one wants to pay $200+ for a custom Kallax cushion to turn their shelf into a bench, and I can’t say I blame them. The best part of this DIY? It requires zero sewing. Yep, I said zero. And the Kallax shelf turned bench looks awesome in our basement playroom, and is one of my daughter’s favorite spots in our house for reading. #winning

Have you ever started a DIY project that you thought would be a piece of cake, only to later think to yourself, “Gosh, why didn’t someone tell me [fill in the blank] before I started?!” Well, that’s what happened when I gave our laundry room flooring a makeover with vinyl peel-and-stick tile, so I spilled all the secrets that the hardware stores won’t tell you about working with peel-and-stick in my blog post. If you’re considering using this to refresh a space in your own home, I highly recommend reading this post. At the very least, you’ll have a better idea what to expect during the process!
